Initiative Lieferkettengesetz
Man-made disasters such as the collapse of the Rana Plaza textile factory in Bangladesh in April 2013, which claimed over 1,100 lives, should never happen again. This has been our goal since we formed a large alliance of NGOs, churches, trade unions and local stakeholders in 2019. That is why we fought for a German and then an EU-wide supply chain law.
Together with our at times more than 140 member organisations, we launched petitions, carried out protests, organised events, held talks with politicians, published research, provided information on the topic via social media and much more over the course of five years. Our work was successful: in 2021, the Bundestag passed the German Supply Chain Act, followed by the EU Supply Chain Directive (CSDDD) in 2024.
Our joint alliance campaign has thus achieved its two major goals and has come to an end in its current form. But we also know that it is far from over! For example, the German government must now transpose the CSDDD into national law. This will set the course for the practical applicability and permanent organisation of the law.
That is why we, the Initiative Lieferkettengesetz, will continue to exist and work under the umbrella of the CorA network. We will continue to keep an eye on the German Government – until the CSDDD has been transposed into German law.
Since June 2024, Initiative Lieferkettengesetz is a project of CorA-Netzwerk für Unternehmensverantwortung.
We are part of the “Justice is Everybody’s Business” campaign, a European movement for environmental and human rights due diligence for corporations.
Our own materials and publications are primarily in German; however, we also publish some of our materials in English, which you can find further down on this page.
